GoHighLevel AI tools explained: Conversation AI, Voice AI, Agent Studio and Ask AI
Heads up: the trial buttons on this page use my affiliate link. If you sign up through it I get a commission. It doesn't cost you more.
GoHighLevel AI is about ten different tools, and they split into three jobs: Conversation AI, Voice AI and Reviews AI talk to a business's leads and customers, the AI Agent workflow action, Managed Agents (in Agent Studio) and Workflow AI Builder do the work behind the scenes, and Ask AI is your own assistant inside the app. Agency users get the building tools free with fair use, while the agents that talk to leads are paid per use or covered by an AI Employee plan at $50 or $97 a month per sub-account (as of Nov 3, 2026).
Somebody on r/HighLevel put it well: four different things that overlap just enough to be confusing. And that was before the Oct 28 Managed Agents launches. This page is the map. The table up top shows every tool, where it lives, what it costs and which plan covers it, then each one gets a short section with a link to the full tutorial.
The video version
Short version
- 01Talks to leads: Conversation AI (text, chat, DMs), Voice AI (phone calls) and Reviews AI (review replies). These are the paid ones.
- 02Does the work: the AI Agent action inside a workflow, Managed Agents in Agent Studio (formerly Super Agents), and Workflow AI Builder, which builds the workflow for you from a prompt.
- 03Helps you: Ask AI, the copilot in the top bar. Plus AI Studio for sites and apps, and Content AI inside the builders.
- 04Agency users get Ask AI, AI Studio and Content AI free with fair use on the $97, $297 and $497 plans. Client sub-accounts pay per use or get an AI Employee plan.
- 05AI Employee Growth is $50 a month per sub-account and Unlimited is $97. Starter is $20 but only for agencies on the $497 Founder plan, and it doesn't cover any of the agents. Phone charges are always extra.
- 06Agent Studio and AI Studio are separate products, whatever the names suggest: AI Studio builds websites, Agent Studio builds agents.
Every GoHighLevel AI tool on one page
Read it by the first column. If the tool talks to the business's customers, it's an agent and you pay for it. If it helps you build, it's mostly free for agency users. Prices are from HighLevel's AI Product Pricing article (updated Nov 2, 2026) and gohighlevel.com/pricing, both read Nov 3, 2026.

The AI that talks to your leads
Conversation AI is the chatbot. It replies to texts, DMs, emails and website chat, qualifies the lead and books the appointment. You run it in Suggestive mode (it drafts, a person sends) or Auto-Pilot. Build it under AI Agents > Conversation AI > + Create Bot. Training it so it sounds like a person is its own page: Train Conversation AI.
Big week for it at the end of October. Since Oct 27 (in Labs) it can text a lead first when a form, lead ad, missed call or tag fires, run database reactivation campaigns from the Contacts page, run on Claude and Gemini models as well as GPT, and connect up to 5 MCP servers. Booking setup is in Build an AI appointment setter.
Voice AI is the phone version: an AI receptionist that answers calls, books into the calendar, transfers to a human and can make outbound calls from a workflow. It lives under AI Agents > Voice AI. The full build is in Build an AI voice agent.
Reviews AI writes replies to Google and Facebook reviews, either as suggestions or on auto. Suggestions are free (up to four per review); you pay a cent when an AI reply actually gets sent. Since Oct 26 you can switch it on for lots of sub-accounts at once from Agency > AI Suite > AI Setup.
The AI that builds and runs automations
This is where the naming gets messy, so here it is plainly. There are three ways to have AI do work in the background, plus one tool that builds the workflows for you.
- AI Agent action: a step you drop into a normal workflow. You give it instructions and up to 10 tools (send SMS, add tag, book, and so on) and it decides what to do. Since Oct 29 it can search the web (1 cent a search on OpenAI and Claude models, 1.4 cents on Gemini) and use Skills, which are reusable instructions you write once. It's billed by tokens, and no AI Employee plan covers it.
- Managed Agents: the new way to build agents, inside AI Agents > Agent Studio > Managed Agents. They used to be called Super Agents. You describe the job in plain English, it drafts the triggers, knowledge base and actions, you test it and publish. It fires on CRM events like a tag, a form, a Facebook lead form or a schedule.
- Agent Studio flow agents: the old drag-and-drop canvas. HighLevel stopped new flow agents in favor of Managed Agents. Ones you already built keep running and you can still edit them. Pay per use on every plan, even Unlimited.
- Workflow AI Builder: not an agent at all. Click Build using AI in Automation > Workflows, describe the automation, and it builds the triggers, waits and messages for you. Free with fair use, for everyone. My take on workflows overall is in GoHighLevel workflows.
What launched for Managed Agents on Oct 28, 2026
Three things in one day, all from HighLevel's changelog. Computer: each Managed Agent gets its own computer and can browse websites, fill in forms, create files and run Python, with 8 to 10 browser chats in parallel. Logins sit in HighLevel Keychain, and payments, sending messages, form submits and file deletes wait for your approval. It works in chat and manual runs, not in runs started by an automation trigger. Turn it on under the agent's Capabilities.
Subagents: a Managed Agent can split a big job into smaller tasks and run them in parallel, and the subagent usage is billed inside the parent agent's run. And in beta, you can upload an n8n workflow export and HighLevel converts it into a Managed Agent, then shows you which steps it carried over, adapted or couldn't do.
Cost: runs come out of the AI Employee allowance first (100 a month on Growth, 1,000 on Unlimited), then pay per use by tokens if you've turned on Extra Usage. One chat session is one run, a trigger firing is one run, and a daily schedule is 30 runs a month.
Ask AI: the one that helps you
Ask AI is the copilot in the top bar (or full screen from the left menu). You type or talk, and it can write content in your brand voice, pull a dashboard number, create contacts and calendars, send a bulk SMS, register A2P, even create a Conversation AI or Voice AI agent. It asks before it changes or deletes anything. It can't build or edit workflows yet (read-only there), and it can't touch the Sites builder or IVR.
The difference from Conversation AI, in HighLevel's own words: Ask AI only acts when you ask. Conversation AI and Voice AI talk to the business's customers.
Ask AI also has a Computer now, its own cloud desktop with Chrome, a terminal and files, and since Oct 28 you can start a Computer task from the mobile app. If you'd rather run AI on GoHighLevel from Claude, that's a different route: Connect Claude to GoHighLevel.
AI Studio and Content AI
AI Studio builds websites, landing pages, forms, booking pages and small web apps from a prompt, in the AI Studio item in the left menu (Labs). It isn't Agent Studio, and HighLevel's own docs go out of their way to say so. The how-to is in AI Studio tutorial. Hosting is separate: Nano is free, Micro and up cost extra on any plan.
Content AI is the Generate with AI button you see inside Social Planner, the blog editor, emails and other builders. Funnel & Website AI, Email AI and the Knowledge Base sit in the same family and are free for everyone with fair use.
What GoHighLevel AI costs, and which plan includes it
Two layers. Your agency plan ($97 Starter, $297 Unlimited or $497 Founder) gives you and your team the building tools free with fair use: Ask AI, AI Studio, Content AI and Creator Studio. Higher plans get bigger allowances, but it's one shared allowance per agency and you can't pass it on to clients. The old $20 agency AI Assistant plan was retired at Level Up 2026 for that reason.
Client sub-accounts are the second layer. Without a plan everything paid is pay per use from the wallet. With an AI Employee plan the sub-account gets allowances. When an allowance runs out the AI pauses by default, unless you turn on Extra Usage in AI Suite, which bills the rest at pay-per-use rates.
You can resell any AI Employee plan to a client at a price you set (Agency View > Reselling > AI Employee). Rebilling the usage itself with a markup needs the $497 plan. Every per-unit rate, plus the phone and text charges that sit on top, is in Usage fees.
| AI Employee plan | Who can buy it | Agents included | Ask AI, AI Studio |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pay per use | Everyone, no monthly fee | None, billed by use | Billed by use |
| Starter, $20 | Only agencies on the $497 Founder plan | None, agents billed by use | Standard usage |
| Growth, $50 | All agency plans | 1,000 Conversation AI replies, 100 Voice AI minutes, Reviews AI unlimited, 100 Managed Agent runs | High usage |
| Unlimited, $97 | All agency plans | Conversation AI, Voice AI and Reviews AI unlimited (fair use), 1,000 Managed Agent runs | Highest usage |

What I actually use
Voice AI with the simulations, every time. In the video above I open a receptionist in the Voice AI builder, click generate scenarios, and let it fake the calls. My words: "I don't want to sit there actually calling this receptionist over and over again." In that demo 15 passed and 13 failed, which is the point: you find the leaking water heater call that breaks it before a real customer does. Then click improve, compare old prompt and new, use the new one, and run it again "until you get a prompt that has almost a close to 100% success rate."
Workflow AI Builder for first drafts. When it came out I said automations can build themselves now and it looks a lot like Lovable. I asked it for a database reactivation for a local plumber and it wrote the trigger, the wait steps and the emails. But a one-line prompt "might not be commercially ready" for a client. Give it the business, the audience and what you want to happen, and then check every step.
Ask AI for my own admin. I tested browser control the night it came out. I told it to find AI news and write a LinkedIn post, and it went off and was about to post it on LinkedIn by itself, so I stopped it because I hadn't approved it lol. The use I like most: have it check a prospect's website for gaps, like no booking form or no chatbot, and drop that into the CRM before I reach out.
Which one do you need?
If a business is missing calls, start with Voice AI. If leads come in by text, forms or DMs and nobody answers fast, start with Conversation AI. If the job is a back-office task that runs when something happens in the CRM, use the AI Agent action for one step inside a workflow you already have, or a Managed Agent when the whole job is the agent. If you just want the workflow built faster, that's Workflow AI Builder, and it's free.
You could build any of these for a local business and charge a monthly fee you set, and people do. Put the client on Growth or Unlimited if they'll use a lot of minutes or replies, or leave them on pay per use and set a usage limit so a busy month doesn't surprise anyone.

FAQ
Does GoHighLevel have AI agents?
Yes. Conversation AI (chat and text), Voice AI (calls) and Reviews AI talk to customers. Managed Agents in Agent Studio and the AI Agent workflow action run tasks in the background. All of them are paid, either per use or through an AI Employee plan.
What is the difference between Agent Studio and AI Studio?
Agent Studio is where AI agents live (Managed Agents, plus older flow agents). AI Studio builds websites, landing pages, forms and web apps from a prompt. HighLevel's docs say they're separate products.
What happened to Super Agents?
They're now called Managed Agents, under AI Agents > Agent Studio > Managed Agents. They're also the only way to create new agents in Agent Studio, since the flow-based builder now only edits existing agents.
Is GoHighLevel AI included in the $97 plan?
The building tools are. Agency users on $97, $297 and $497 get Ask AI, AI Studio and Content AI free with fair use, and Workflow AI Builder is free for everyone. The agents that talk to leads are paid on every plan, as of Nov 3, 2026.
How much is the AI Employee plan?
Growth is $50 a month per sub-account and Unlimited is $97 (gohighlevel.com/pricing, Nov 3, 2026). There's also a $20 Starter for sub-accounts, but only agencies on the $497 Founder plan can buy it, and it doesn't include Conversation AI, Voice AI, Reviews AI or Managed Agents.
Does AI Employee Unlimited cover phone calls?
It covers the Voice AI part, fair use, for inbound, outbound and widget calls. The phone system charges for the call itself are billed separately on every plan.
Can Ask AI build workflows?
Not yet. Ask AI can list and read workflows but can't create or edit them. Use Workflow AI Builder (Build using AI in Automation > Workflows) for that.
